Policies and Guidelines for All Programs Involving Minors
In addition to the required POM Training, all programs involving Minors shall incorporate the following policies and guidelines:
- Staff Training must include, at a minimum, information about responsibilities and expectations, policies, procedures, and enforcement; appropriate crisis/emergency responses; safety and security precautions; confidentiality issues involving minors; and mandated reporting.
- All staff must know how to request local emergency services and how to report suspected child abuse;
- Staff should be prepared to inform program participants about safety and security procedures, policies and rules specific to the program, University rules, and behavioral expectations.
- Each program shall develop and publish to participants and their parent/legal guardian the rules and discipline measures applicable to the program. Program participants must abide by all University regulations and may be removed from the program for non-compliance with rules.
The following must be included in program rules:
- The possession or use of alcohol and other drugs, fireworks, guns and other weapons is prohibited.
- No violence, including sexual abuse or harassment, will be tolerated.
- No sexual conduct or interaction between minor program participants and any other participant or any staff member is permitted.
- Hazing of any kind is prohibited.
- Bullying of any kind, including verbal, physical, and cyber bullying, is prohibited.
- No theft of property regardless of owner will be tolerated.
- No use of tobacco products (smoking is prohibited in all University buildings) will be tolerated.
- Misuse or damage of University property is prohibited.
- The inappropriate use of cameras, imaging, and digital devices is prohibited including use of such devices in showers, restrooms, or other areas where privacy is expected by participants.
- Title IX prohibits sex discrimination (including sexual harassment and/or sexual abuse) against minor participants in any of the University’s education programs or activities, including recreational and/or athletic programs or services operated by the University.
